Karl Weiming Lu Artist Biography:

​Karl Weiming Lu, 吕.卡尔.卫民, is A Contemporary Artist of Science & Technology, Psychology, and Philosophy. A Premium Plus Member of National Association for Visual Arts, Australia; and a visiting Professor of Boya Think Tank, Beijing University, China. He is regarded as a true contemporary global Renaissance man, his life and art spans from East to West, in his ongoing quest for knowledge and creativity with a great dream to fufil himself as a genuine thinker, creator, and entrepreneur. In 1991, the celebrated Hangzhou artist and engineer of China relocated to Australia to have his postgraduate studies in philosophy, international studies and finance, respectively at The University of Wollongong, The University of Sydney, and The Securities Institute Of Australia; and further achieved triple Master’s degrees in Art, Architecture (majored in archtectural computing) and Design from The University of New South Wales, Australia. Lu has worked in civil engineering, architecture, fashion, stock trading and web linked e-business, but he never abandoned his artistic passion. "All my interests—in art, science and philosophy—come together in my artworks" he explains. With the new millennium, he's returned to the art practice professionally in his Sydney studio and exhibited  & published globally at major world art fairs and galleries in China, Japan, Singapore, Australia, USA, UK, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, France, Italy, Holland, Spain, Portugal, Danmark, Belgium, Ukraine, East Europe, Argentina, Dubai of UAE and Middle East.  He has also become a leading contemporary Chinese art critic since 2012 with top-ranked Chinese art webzines and digital media.
Lu's art style reflects his personal journey and respected position within the early 1980's Chinese Elite Student Movement and the significant "85 New Wave Art Movement"( 85 美术新潮）. Trained in both Eastern and Western traditions, he often combines the two to create unique hybrid styles of mixed media of acrylic and / or oil with both oil and Chinese ink brush techniques. "The Memory Series” evokes both real and imaginary landscapes where 1980's Chinese students pondered philosophy, psychology, literature, political economics, art and science. Lu first created his original "Dripping Fluid” technique in his “Memory Series" in 2003 and fully embraces the distinctive abstract style in his ongoing "The Dripping Fluid Series”. Karl Lu's most recent, "The Origin Series" employs Chinese ink brush technique in an homage to science, bio-forms, life, time space, and universe, which clearly show Lu's top talent with fluent and bold ink-brush stroke to paint the unique and distictive style of abstract beauty philosophically with both simpilicity and complexicity. To create the unique artworks with the artist's own style, feature, signature and originality is the nature, character, essence which all great masters of art must to have ! 
Karl W. Lu was born in 1962, into a big renowned intellectual, political, business and art family for generations in the world cultural heritage city Hangzhou, China, where Lu’s parents spent their professional careers at the China Academy of Art. His father is a retired professor and the editor of An English – Chinese Dictionary of Fine Arts 《英汉美术词典 》. His grandfather was a Lord of Ju-Ren of the Qing-Dynasty ( 清末举人）and a Member of Parliament of Zhejiang Provinceof The Republic of China (民国浙江省议员 before the 1st of October 1949); later after 1949 he became a Vice Chairman of The Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference of Hangzhou （杭州市政协副主席）. His grandfather is also a renowned historian, educator, calligrapher and author of the famous books, A Historical Tale of the Ancient Chinese Myth 《上古神话演义》and A Narrative Of Hangzhou 《说杭州》. And his grandmother 's family had run a leading textile business in Hangzhou and Zhejiang Proince before 1949. Karl Lu had been deeply influenced by such a family and social environment of traditional, modern and contemporary Chinese culture, art, history, business and politics.
Lu was fond of drawing and painting and learnt art since a three years age boy. He learnt visual arts systemically in a Class of Fine Arts of Hangzhou Children’s Palace, where he also met a group gifted students in fine arts, most of them late graduated from China Academy of Art or other Universities in the fields of visual arts, design and architecture. Karl Lu had worked for the New Art Magzine of China Academy of Art in mid 1980s; he and some of his art classmates of Hangzhou Children's Palace later became the pioneers and leading figures of the significant “85 New Wave Art Movement” in 1980s' China. Besides art, Lu was also good at science and techinology and got his first degree in civil engineering, majored in building design.​( Karl W.
